Check the Cheque you accept . Is it a CTS-2010 format ?



 No cheque other than , in the CTS-2010 format, will be accepted from January 2013. Extract of RBI circular below.
The easiest way to know a CTS format cheque is the 'date of cheque' which is provided in boxes. There are other un-noticeable things like the Water-mark etc which are also present. Sample below:
REMEMBER , from now onwards ,  each of us, has to ensure that whenever we accept a set of PDCs or a cheque dated after Dec 2012, it should be in the CTS-2010 format.

This is with regard to a notification (RBI/2012-13/190
DPSS.CO.CHD.No. 399/04.07.05/2012-13 dated September 3, 2012) issued by The Reserve Bank of India regarding Standardization and Enhancement of Security Features in Cheque Forms - Migration to CTS 2010 standards which has directed all banks to issue only multi-city/payable at par CTS-2010 standard cheques. It has also directed all banks to withdraw the non-CTS-2010 Standard cheques in circulation before December 31, 2012. In compliance with the aforementioned circular, we would like to inform you that all non-CTS-2010 Standard cheques shall be withdrawn by December 31, 2012. Accordingly we would urge you to please verify if your cheque book(s) are CTS-2010 compliant. If not, we would request you to please place an order for a new cheque book. Instructions on identification of a CTS-2010 compliant cheque leaf and on ordering a new cheque book are given below:

How do I identify if my cheque book is CTS-2010 compliant?

Please check if the letters "CTS-2010" have been printed vertically on the left side of the cheque leaf.

My cheque book is CTS-2010 compliant and the above features are present in my cheque leaves. What do I have to do?

If your cheque book is already CTS-2010 compliant, you can keep using the same and there is no action to be taken at your end.

My cheque book is not CTS-2010 compliant. How do I reorder a new cheque book?

You can place a request for CTS-2010 compliant cheque book through your nearest branch / Net

This change is applicable across all banks, for instruments issued by you, as well as instruments received by you. The above notification however is applicable only to Banking Operations in India.
